PLASMA FACING MATERIALS

Pulsar is leading the research, development and testing of advanced plasma facing materials, capable of withstanding intense neutron bombardment and high temperatures without contamination. Intelligent, long-life surface systems with revolutionary self-diagnostic capabilities.

DIVERTOR TECHNOLOGY

Divertors are an essential part of toroidal fusion reactors like ITER, fitted at the bottom and/or top of the D cross section of modern tokamaks, the divertor shaves off the outer layer of the plasma removing potentially contaminated parts and allowing gas and heat to escape in a controlled way. This technology increases stability and performance and will form a crucial part of any nuclear fusion power producing development.

HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS (HTS)

HTS technology is at the heart of today’s fusion energy innovation. From Magnetic Mirror devices, Stellarator, Spheromak and linear devices, HTS is required to bring them to Q and beyond. Pulsar is investing in the practical implementation of this technology, reduction of size whilst promoting simplistic, reliable design for real world fusion developers.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & PLASMA CONTROL COMPONENTS

The development of revolutionary technologies including the use of Artificial Intelligence to control and confine hot plasma is crucial in reducing the size and cost of reactors. Pulsar is a leader in nano technology and control components for use in solving complex plasma physics problems in Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), Gyrokinetics and Fluid Dynamics.

SPECIALIST ROBOTICS

Smart and compact robotic systems capable of operating in the environments found inside a fusion reactor including radiation, extreme temperature, challenging access, vacuum and magnetic fields. Pulsar robotics are able to communicate with revolutionary smart panels fitted into a reactor, predicting potential issues before they arise using AI, augmented reality and autonomous intelligent plasma facing components.
